Story Time & Play

A Literary Adventure with Eman Salem

BIOGRAPHY- Eman Salem has always wanted to be a children's book illustrator. Anything 'books' has always fascinated her so much that she has illustrated several books and written three of her own. 'A little tree Goes for Hajj,' A Little Trees Ramadan Adventures,' and 'Lina the tree and the Woodcutter.' Her Palestinian culture has inspired her, and being Canadian has pushed her to practice Islam and has shaped her identity. Her artwork has always been about books and storytelling. The telling of a story allows us to travel to lands untouched and gives us experiences of unknown and whimsical dreams. It provides one the power to change a narrative. To offer something unusual.

Her choice of medium is usually watercolour or ink, sometimes pencil. She has a background in textiles, where she became fascinated with Palestinian embroidery (tatreez), natural dyes, and silks. She also makes paper and has recently explored paper engineering and hand-made pop-up books.

We are delighted to bring you our very first Story Time & Play event, featuring the talented local artist and illustrator, Eman Salem.

Join us as she takes us on a journey through the first rhyming children's book on Jerusalem, Masjid al-Aqsa, and the Night Journey, creating a unique experience for our little ones. Together, let's instill a love for Palestine in the hearts of our children.

What to Expect:

  • Beautiful Storytelling: Eman Salem will bring the story to life, captivating the audience with a joyful experience that leaves children yearning to learn more about Palestine, its rich culture, and history

  • Interactive Playtime: After the reading, the adventure continues with a fun-filled playtime session! Children will have the opportunity to explore the story through creative play and engaging activities.

Support Local Artistry: As a token of appreciation, we request attendees to consider purchasing Eman Salem's books. The books make wonderful gifts, and with Ramadan just around the corner, they offer a meaningful way to share stories and culture with your loved ones.
